Listening to the Heartbeat of the Earth;

It is a conclusive approach to earthquake disaster prevention, which changed the concept of “measurement”. The most advanced network system operating with high-precision time synchronization greatly expands the visibility of earthquake observation.

DATAMARKR accurately and simultaneously catches an event occurring at a remote place and collects real time data for distributed processing. It is a time-synchronous type multi-channel measurement network system and we take pride in its advanced performance. The network of several thousand observation points located across Japan for earthquake and volcano activities continues working non-stop 365 days a year to help our natural science research and disaster prevention.

Development

  • High-precision time synchronization with UTC
  • A large-size network transmitting real-time sensor information from all over Japan
  • High dynamic range up to 135dB

These are the advanced technologies supporting HAKUSAN’s precise observation network. Being equipped with GPS receivers and precisely processing the time signals delivered, it synchronizes the measurement/control mechanism with UTC. With the time data and an individual machinery identifier built into IP packets, it enables real-time transmission even when using an asynchronous transmission network such as Ethernet.

Providing Solutions

We offer two solutions: a data logger system featuring a small light body with battery drive; and a telemeter system designed for real time transmission. The systems are used for earthquake and volcano observation networks, vibration measurement inside a building, and structure exploration, via a wired/wireless IP network as a transmission route. We offer solutions to cover the entire process of measurement, transmission, analysis, and data utilization, including: analytic applications to investigate the process of earthquake outbreak using real time data from DATAMARKR installed at each location in Japan, using analysis software as WIN, and the “Emergency Earthquake Transmitting System” to announce an outbreak of earthquake before a tremor starts.

Achievements

Seismograph Network

DATAMARK was adopted by the key observation networks such as the satellite telemeter seismograph network connecting 224 locations nationwide, high-sensitivity seismograph network (Hi-net) that captures microearthquakes, and Japan’s largest severe earthquake network (K-NET) covering over 1,000 locations.

Volcano Observation Network

  • Mt. Usu
  • Mt. Iwate
  • Mt. Aso
  • Sakurajima
  • Kusatsu Shirane

DATAMARK plays an active part in observation systems for these major volcanoes.

Structure Exploration

DATAMARK was adopted as a measuring instrument for the “Volcanic Zone Structure exploration Project” studying the internal structure of volcanoes and the “Metropolitan Great Earthquake Disaster Mitigation Project” investigating the ground structure of urban regions.
